PK versus CK: when does a character’s story permanently end?

PK and CK do not describe the same outcome. Permanent character death needs the server’s agreement, exception and faction rules to be checked separately.

Vice Roleplay · Sources checked:

In roleplay discussion, PK (Player Kill) generally describes an outcome without permanent character death, while CK (Character Kill) means permanent death. This short distinction does not make every server’s procedures or memory rules identical.

An on-screen result is not automatically a CK

Being knocked down or seeing a system death screen does not itself determine permanent character death. Vice treats injury roleplay, returning to combat and CK under separate rules. Identify the actual outcome first.

Do not import assumptions such as forgetting everything or being free to return immediately from another server. Read the relevant current provisions for the situation.

Agreement cannot be obtained through pressure

Vice section A.6.4 explains agreement, exceptions and how unauthorised death scenes are handled. OOC pressure to accept a CK is not a substitute for a roleplay reason. Additional rules cover faction authority and Faction Management review.

Suspecting a Fear RP breach does not create an arbitrary CK right either. Follow the relevant staff process instead of presenting your own decision as final.

Take the permanent outcome seriously

Because CK ends a story, its agreement and consequences should not be left ambiguous. Read the current rules concerning withdrawing a completed CK or continuing the same character under a similar name.

This article neither approves nor overturns any character’s CK. For a particular case, provide the necessary character information and evidence privately through support rather than treating a general definition as an individual decision.

This article was prepared with AI assistance after checking the sources and Vice rules. Example scenes were written for explanation and do not describe actual player incidents. Current server rules and on-screen requirements take precedence.
