Powergaming examples: leaving room for a response
Powergaming includes more than impossible actions. Deciding another character’s reaction or a scene’s outcome alone can also be a problem.
Vice Roleplay · Sources checked:
Vice rule A.3 covers unrealistic actions, removing response opportunities and using systems unrealistically. Writing an emote is not sufficient on its own: what that emote decides and what you actually do in game both matter.
Separate an attempt from its outcome
Asking for an object, reaching towards it and the other person giving it to you are different stages. “/me holds out a hand and asks for the key.” invites a response. Writing the other character’s agreement, fear or defeat for them removes a choice.
This does not mean every everyday action needs a lengthy permission exchange. Handle an uncertain outcome affecting another player’s character in a way that lets that player respond.
Do not ignore system-backed facts
An item shown on your character cannot simply be described as elsewhere, nor can inconvenient damage be dismissed as outside the story. Systems and roleplay support each other; you cannot use only whichever side is favourable.
If a player is working in a shop, clicking a menu and leaving without interaction can bypass the social scene. The appropriate detail depends on the transaction and context.
Keep your character’s limitations
Falls, serious damage or suddenly knowing every profession affect consistency. Carrying a scene’s consequences forward matters during ordinary play as well as at the moment of losing.
If uncertain, read the relevant current rule and ask through the proper route. These examples are not a fixed penalty list: the actual system actions, emotes and context need to be evaluated together.
