Alhambra Park

The park built with 4.5 where the old Alhambra club stood: fenced basketball courts, tables outside VICE Corner 92, and a memorial sign that reads “Alhambra · The music never left · This corner remembers”.

“The Alhambra died with the forum.” That is how the 4.5 announcement began. As the city was rebuilt, a new park was laid out in Idlewood on the site of the old Alhambra club: basketball courts, lawns and a place for the neighbourhood to gather.

In the middle are the fenced Idlewood Courts, surrounded by paths, benches and lamps. Tables were set outside VICE Corner 92; there is bike parking for those who ride in, benches under the trees, a neighbourhood notice board and a basketball-themed mural.

The memorial sign at the entrance keeps the Alhambra’s name: “The music never left. This corner remembers.” A small salute for those who remember the old Alhambra, a question mark for newcomers; ask, and someone will tell you.
