In SA:MP every player has their name above their head. It is there so players can tell each other apart; it is not something your character sees. You do not know the name of a stranger on the street, even if it is floating above them.
What counts as metagaming
- Calling someone by the name above their head
- Recognising someone by a name shown through a wall or objects and warning others
- Describing someone with the nametag, as in “describes First_Last”
- Checking a masked person’s ID in the player list and acting like you know them
Before your character claims to know someone, make sure they could really recognise them: did they see the face, know the voice, remember the clothes?
Exception: the badge tag
Police, city staff and celebrities have a “[Tag]” part above their name. That part counts as IC information; think of it as seeing the uniform or the badge.
House, business and vehicle info
House and business icons work the same way: the door number and lock state can be used in roleplay; the owner’s name, the value and the partner cannot. System info shown when you get in a vehicle (apart from gauges like fuel and mileage) is IC only for the registered owner and people who can run the plate.
